The Tedco toy performs the best. This hanging unit looks well made
I have 3 of these from various companies. This unit performs the slowest by a mile. The Tedco toy performs the best. This hanging unit looks well made, very nice to look at, but needs a lot of sunshine (heat) to spin real real slow. ....it's sensitivity leaves one wanting. So if you're looking for optical beauty, you're in luck. If you're looking for performance as a sensitive radiometer, look elsewhere. Perhaps its the unit I received that is defective.

Big Dissapointment!!!
I have always wanted a Crookes radiometer and this one seemed perfect since I could hang out of reach of my cat. I hung it in the sunniest window in my house and...... nothing! When I focused an intense flood light on it, still nothing happened. I'm not sure if this model was improperly designed or if mine came with broken vacuum seal, but in either case it never worked.Unfortunately I did not return it before the refund period expired, so shame on me for that. As I mentioned, it could be that I just received a defective unit but I would strongly advise you to be prepared to return it if you are willing to risk purchasing this model.

Good looking but poor motion.
I had a "light mill" that was great. It looked just like this one. When mine finally stopped working (because air gradually leaks into these things), I ordered this one to replace it. This one turns nicely in direct sunlight. But it remains stationary all the rest of the time. My previous one turned in even slight light. So this one is a disappointment. It behaves as if the bearing surface of the rotating vanes was damaged in shipping. In moderate light, if I jiggle it, it turns for a minute then stops. Of course, there's nothing I can do about that now. I'm disappointed in this one because it's motionless most of the time, even on bright days. Next time I'll buy a more expensive one and hope for better results.

... after reading some of the reviews because it looks good. However it really needs a lot of light ...
I gave it the benefit of the doubt after reading some of the reviews because it looks good. However it really needs a lot of light to get past a standstill. I had it a window with a screen and even in direct sunlight it just doesn't get going. For fun I may hang it in my car as it will probably work fine as long as the vibration keeps it from getting stuck. The Tedco ones are much better although I had one arrive detached from the base, but I glued it and it works fine. I might hang it outdoors because it would get more light and wind, but I am afraid it might get broken in a hurricane.

Nice light mill
As with all of the light mills, this works well if it has plenty of sunlight. It spins slowly, so don't expect it to behave like a pinwheel. My husband hung it so that it receives sunlight during the winter mornings, but no other time of the year. Arrived promptly and well packages to prevent damage.

Very Nice Crookes Radiometer, well made.
Wanted a quality scientific device to hang in a window, this is it.Cat likes it too, he sits and studies it as it runs.

Very Nice Product
Great workmanship. Serves nicely as a science-based Christmas tree ornament. I have one hanging from my car's rear-view mirror and I love it! Just awesome to see it spin whenever the sun is shining.

Great item, good quality
Love this item. I'm replacing a broken one and I think this one is higher quality than the last. Arrived quickly and was well packaged.
