Review: Great product, that is super stable and provides greater wi-fi coverage across the home! - I live in a 2 storey Victorian mid-terraced (brick) house which suffered from weak signal / dropouts in the rear of my property (ground floor kitchen extension / upstairs rear bathroom) and in the back garden. The ISP provided router (Virgin Media SuperHub 3) is in the very front of my property on the ground floor. Adding these 3 TP-Link Deco routers has fixed the problem completely, and I am bathed in good wi-fi coverage throughout my entire home (both floors, including the kitchen / bathroom). I placed one in the kitchen window and this means I now have great wifi in my back garden too (ready for installing a wireless CCTV camera outside). The speed of my wifi has increased compared with my original ISP provided wifi too! Setting up the Deco routers was very easy. I decided to disable the wifi part of my ISP's rotuer (to reduce power consumption and amount of wi-fi signals flying around my home). This was the only challenge I faced in configuring the TP-Link Deco / integrating it into my existing set up. I recommend doing some homework for instructions on doing this first.. as when I did this I lost connectivity for some time for some ethernet connected devices. This turned out to be because I didn't disconnect some other Ethernet cables on the router first (and not realising that the VM SuperHub 3 can only work with ONE ethernet cable plugged in when in modem mode). I was able to then re-connect other devices (such as the Virgin Media TV box) by running the ethernet cable from the spare ethernet TP-Link Deco router instead). Once I had rebooted the VM Super Hub and the main TP-Link Deco router everything came back to life fully. I don't know why this works, but it does ;-) The physical units themselves are of good build quality and are more attractive to look at than many of the competitors mesh routers. I think it represents good value for money, especially compared with other products on the market with this level of features. A few features I particularly like are: * Ability to set up parental controls for younger family members. * Automatically turning off the status LEDs overnight (to help keep things dark when trying to sleep). * Transmitting signals over the mains power cables (which I think is helping with coverage in some areas of my home). * Ability to turn on WPS from the app (to speed up the connection process for some devices) * Notification when a device is added to the network.
Review: Brilliant product. Solves your poor WiFi speed. - This is one of my best purchases and i recommend this product to anyone who is suffering from poor wifi signal from their ISP router. My plusnet router was a pain (i would like to say more but the words would not be appropriate here) at best i got 20mb and the majority of time anything from 1mb to 5mb. Well what a relief it was when i connected the Deco M4, the wifi signal was full and the wifi speed clocking above 70mb, so happy. Its the same high speed in any of the rooms. It would have been so nice if plusnet admitted their router was crap and buying Deco M4 would solve all your wifi problems. I spent months trying to get it sorted and finally just gave up. Setting up the Deco M4 units was very easy. Firstly, load the app and the app then guides you through what needs to done. First unit is connected to router with the network cable and power adaptor. The app guides you through each step. Once this is done you take the second M4 unit to another location (away from router, furthest point) and plug it in (no network cable needed). The app guides you through the process. Once this is done you then take the third M4 to another place (away from unit 1 and 2) and plug it in (no network cable needed). The app guides you through each step. Once all M4 units are configured you are ready to use the super fast wifi. You will be shocked at the speed I'm getting over 70mb. Another good thing is you can see all the devices that are connected to the M4 and lets you know how much data each of the devices is consuming (upload and download). Overall very good product and for me its money well spent. No more WiFi problems. So happy. 😊😊😊👍

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can you set the ssid & password of the deco wifi to be the same as your router to avoid reconnecting all existing devices to a new wifi, thanks**
A: I realise this question is old but I will answer it anyway. You take note of the existing SSID and password configured on your router. Then you connect up the Deco (using cable from primary Deco to the router), reconfigure the Deco from the SSID it’s come with to the SSID you are already using, and turn off the WiFi on your existing router. Then all your existing devices will register to the Decos.

**Q: Does this work with the vr2800 and re650?**
A: alongside yes, as a mesh system with them, no.

**Q: I have BT and 3 discs wifi not good 60ft away in sons room, would this work**
A: This is an excellent product. It works by linking together so they all connect and no drop out when walking between all the decos. You can add more to cover an even larger area. I have a 5 bedroom house with kingspan insulation and this system covers everywhere including my detached double garage and my full garden also. I previously used TP powerlink this is far superior with no drop out or connection issues. Hope this helps you out.

**Q: Has anyone set this up using a virgin hub 3? i’ve set it to modem mode but then the setup process fails at the internet testing part. any tips? thanks**
A: When vm hub is in modem mode make sure you use bottom port (port 4) as the main port to connect to the deco

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great improvement from ViriginMedia Hub
*by G***T on 7 January 2020*

For a long while, we've experienced really poor Wifi connection in our house. Blackspots, random dropouts, can't see some devices (Sonos was the main culprit, would be there one minute, gone the next), slowness etc. So I decided to pick up some powerline Wifi extenders. While that helped clear a few blackspots, all it really did was amplify the crappy Wifi from the VM Hub. So no improvement on reliability at all. No-fault of the extenders. So I decided to switch to a mesh system to replace the VM Wifi completely. As we've got a few areas in the house that are hard to reach and over three floors, I was holding out for a mesh with a Powerline option. As this was in the sale, I took the plunge. Set up was ok, although I needed to create a TP-Link account which seemed a bit OTT. Anyway, getting all three units set up was actually pretty painless via the app on my iPhone. The main issue I had was actually with how the VM router was set up. If your a VM customer, please take note of the following: For a while, I had it set up in parallel to the new Deco network. While everything worked, I had the occasional issue with some devices getting lost or not being able to connect properly. So I decided to switch the VM Hub into "modem mode". What was supposed to happen was the VM Hub is now just providing Internet and DHCP and the Deco the Wifi/connectivity. However, everything fell apart. Any device connected to the Deco didn't have internet or might not connect. Turns out, the VM Hub will only work properly if you connect your new network (in this case, the Deco) into ethernet port 1. As I had the Deco plugged into port 4, nothing seemed to work right. As soon as the Deco was plugged into port 1, everything sprung back to life. Found this out by trial and error, save yourself a few hours. Since then, Wifi and connectivity, in general, has been faultless. My TV and VM TV box are plugged into the ethernet ports on a Deco unit and we've not had any issues watching any streaming services like we used to. Every other device on the wifi works perfectly and every blackspot has been eliminated. Sonos no longer randomly vanishes. No dropouts. Speed is consistent. It just works, which I'm pleased about. If your a VirginMedia customer and are experiencing issues with your Wifi connection, then I highly recommend you consider checking out this product, or a product like this. It will improve your connection no end. As for the Deco, it works just fine. The features with the system are pretty basic, but it's not an issue as it's a major step up from what we had. One thing I would like to see is detail on the Powerline, there is nothing in the app to indicate if powerline is being used, or the backhaul is pure wifi. However, as mentioned, as it just works, it's no biggie.
