It does have a strong scent, especially right at first, but I've had it for several months now and the scent has faded a little so it isn't so strong, but it is still nice and relaxing. What is really great is the pain relief this provides. As has been noted in other posts, the cold doesn't last a real long time, probably 20 to 30 minutes, but it isn't so freezing cold that you can't have direct contact with skin. I use it for my fibromyalgia and migraines. It is much better if you put the word side towards the skin, instead of the soft side on the skin. It is really a great pack, and I've tried pretty much all the packs out there. I don't use this one for heat. I have a different pack I use for that. I do know that this is exactly what I needed for work. I had neck surgery 14 years ago (herniated disc) so often my shoulder will flare up. I like to ice or use heat and this wrap is perfect. It fits nicely on my shoulders and I can warm it up or put it in the freezer. I have a routine that each night I put it in the freezer and wear it around my shoulders on my way to work (after the gym). Then if my shoulder is bothering me at work I will put it in the microwave for 90 minutes and it helps relax the muscle. I keep it in my backpack that I take too and from work and it is always where I need it to be. One for the shoulders and one that includes the back of the neck. I keep them inthe freezer during the day, and leave them out at night after I had use them so that I can use them "warm" in the morning. I place them in the microwave as recommended, and in the a.m. use them while I have breakfast. They areso soothing for my muscles. The orthopedic clinic I go to recommended for my needs, cool in the afternoon/eveningsand warm in the mornings. This recommendation was just for me, for my needs.
