For years, my mother always left the butter dish on the kitchen table, and we never died from rancid butter. However, we were a large family with six children and went through it quickly. I have tried tirelessly to find a way to have soft butter on the table again without having to throw it away all the time. This little gem is the answer! It does hold a full stick of butter (U.S. 1/2 cup) which surprised me. It looks too small to hold a full stick, but it fits it perfectly. There are no flaws in the glaze or chips in the stoneware. It was well packaged and arrived safely and intact. The color is as expected. I can't speak on the dishwasher safety as I will be washing mine by hand due to preference. I add fresh filtered water about every other day just to keep it fresh. I don't use our tap water for anything. If you like having spreadable butter, I highly recommend this butter keeper. I'm just beginning the sourdough journey and didn't want to begin the process unless I knew I could spread fresh butter on my bread. I can't wait!
