Review: Great for JDM electric appliances. - Exactly what we needed to use an air purifier we bought from Japan. No issues whatsoever. It's been a few months and it's going strong. I think there were some slightly cheaper units, but this one had consistently good reviews. For something like this you definitely want good build and engineering because without it whatever you plug in to it becomes useless and sometimes that means expensive useless. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention you need to check how much your appliance is going to draw before buying any transformer and plan to get one with the appropriate rating. This unit is rated at a max of 200 Watts. Keep in mind that transformers/power supplies, in general, work optimally at about 50% of the rated maximum load. Any more than 50% and not only is the unit less efficient, it will physically start to heat up and all the extra heat/work will shorten its lifespan and blow the fuses. For my appliance I knew it wouldn't pull more than 100 Watts (I think mine was rated at a max of 80 watts), so I knew this 200 Watt model would work very well. Also of note is that although it steps-up and steps-down, it only has the Japanese 2 prong outlet. So you'll need an adapter if you want to use it to step-up and plug in a US 2 prong or 3 prong.
Review: The correct transformer for vintage Japanese hifi - I use this to run a Japanese market Denon DP-3000 turntable. It's perfect. Zero problems.

## Features

- This continuous use transformer is capable of both up and down voltage conversions for Japan and USA electricity to enable use of Japanese products in USA and USA products in Japan
- 200 Watts is the maximum capacity of this transformer including the power surge
- It converts 110/120 volt USA power to 100 volt Japan power AND 100 volt to 110/120 volts (means it will convert the American power to Japanese power and also convert Japanese power to American)
- Power ON/OFF Switch. Fuse protection for safety
- Remember to leave at least a 100% margin for power surges/spike when buying a transformer. For power tools, laser printers and heating appliances like Rice cookers, coffee makers, toasters, halogen or fluorescent bulbs you must leave a power spike margin of 4 times

## Questions & Answers

**Q: wich watt should i pick for stax energizer from japan?**
A: Power consumption is listed in the specifications. Go to Stax's official website (stax DOT co DOT jp) and click on "イヤースピーカーのスタックスへようこそ" (which means, "Welcome to STAX Earspeaker". The link should be above another link that says, "Overseas Distributor"). Then, on the next page, click on the tab that says, "製品情報" (which means, "product information".). Click on your product and then Ctrl+F (or equivalent, to search on the page for specified text) for "消費電力" (which means, "power consumption"). Units should be in watts. Should your energizer no longer be in production, scroll down to the bottom of the page and find it in the list of discontinued products and follow the above steps to find the power consumption. If you get a pdf of an image (and you cannot Ctrl+F or equivalent), then use your favorite internet search engine to search for "stax <model name of energizer> pdf", without quotes, to find the product manual. There should be text in the pdf you can use Ctrl+F or equivalent on.

For example, the official product page for the SRM-353X energizer lists its power consumption as 30W. And the new flagship SRM-T8000 hybrid energizer that just came out is specified as consuming up to 95W. If we naively assume that the newest flagship tube energizer from STAX is the most power-hungry model, then take 95W, multiply it by 4, round UP to the nearest transformer model, and call it done. Using this logic, the 500W model should be fine.

Another very important thing to note is that in the official product manuals, it is very likely stated that the energizer is rated to ONLY accept an input of 90~100VAC at 50/60Hz. If you are in the USA and have outlets at 120VAC, then this product will not bring the voltage down far enough into the 90~100VAC range. My outlets are measured with a DMM to be at 123VAC, so this product (rated to bring 115VAC down to 100VAC) will only bring the voltage down to 108VAC, which does not fall into the range of 90~100VAC. This is systematic error that will most likely damage your energizer over time. Follow the product specs to the letter. Don't take risks on an expensive, sensitive ~$1000 amplifier.

**Q: I have a vacuum cleaner that i brought from japan and it says 100v, 1000w,, 50-60hz. will this converter make this vacuum cleaner work in us?**
A: You cannot use a 1000 Watt vacuum cleaner with a 500 watt transformer. You should be buying atleast a 2000 watt transformer.http://www.amazon.com/VCT-VT-2000J-Japanese-Transformer-Converts/dp/B004O9WIK8/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1436467556&sr=1-1&keywords=vct+vt-2000j

**Q: Would this transformer work well with japanese dryer (ac100v 50-60hz 1200w)?**
A: The transformer is rated at 2000 watts. Your dryer is rated at 1200 watts. It should work with plenty of capacity to spare , however I'd keep an eye on it to ensure it does not overheat, just because devices like heating units and large motors tend to load up devices like this.

**Q: I blew the fuse on my VT-1000J. Would someone please kindly let me know either a replacement fuse model number or specs? Thanks so much!**
A: "F10AL250V" seem to be fast acting according to specs. Would slow-blow be better for this application?

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The correct transformer for vintage Japanese hifi
*by T***Y on April 26, 2026*

I use this to run a Japanese market Denon DP-3000 turntable. It's perfect. Zero problems.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect transformer for my need, but mine was maybe used/a return?
*by E***0 on March 21, 2024*

This is exactly the transformer I was looking for (switching US 120v to Japanese 100v on a vintage JDM turntable), and at a decent price (many transformers for sale aren't clear on whether they change the voltage up or down or both ways in their descriptions, and do not adequately describe how they "transform" the power). I've run the unit for awhile and it doesn't get too hot so that's also a plus. Very easy to use. My only gripe is that when I received it, the fuse was already blown and it wouldn't turn on. Took me a few minutes to figure out what was wrong with the unit; spare fuses came with the unit so once I swapped one out it has worked fine. It's just "odd" that this happened, I feel as if I was sent a returned unit.
