It worked for maybe ten minutes and then the needle would stay pegged and the alarm wouldn't shut off after it sensed any metal. I had to turn it off and back on to reset the detector. I thought it was broken.It turns out the first set of batteries I used were not as new as I thought. I put in some cheapy new batteries right from the store and it worked perfect after that. With the low power batteries, it also had about a 1-2" diameter search area. With the new ones, it used the entire 8" diameter detector and then some.
