## Description

Standlee Hay Company Premium Timothy Grass Hand-Selected Forage, 25 lb Box

Review: Piggie and bunny approved! - Hay, online? What? Well, we broke down and purchased Standlee online, after having a difficult time finding a similar sized bale in local stores. To our surprise, and much to the delight of our guinea pigs and bunny- it was excellent quality 2nd cut Timothy hay. Green, aromatic, lots of hay tops and its plenty soft. Our zoo is eating this hay right up, lots of happy piggy popcorns and bunny binkies!! It has remained fresh and smells great. The price is worthy of the quality hay- which proves itself as soon as you see your pets getting excited each time they know another deposit of this hay is being dropped!! Give it a try, it is a good buy.
Review: So Far I’m Very Impressed! - Wow this 25 lb Timothy hay came in a huge 24x18.5x18 box. I was more impressed when I got to open it. It was neatly stuffed in a black plastic bag & smelled fresh. It was long stalks of green hay too. None of that brown dead moldy stuff. Now the taste test. My 3 yr dwarf mixed Bunny is super picky about her hay. She’s been eating another brand for the past 2.5 yrs. I hadn’t been too happy with their hay quality but she just seems to love it. I just wanted to try this. The Other hay I was using tends to be super dusty towards the middle & end of box which I hate. Also lots of brown dried hay & their 20 lb Is cut up into short pieces which gets very flaky when distributing. This wasn’t like that at all. It was nice & long which I could pick up with my hands w/o flaking off. Then again it’s the good stuff on the top so can’t comment until I’ve used it a bit. As for taste? I couldn’t tell you but my Bun has been eating & nibbling on it. I’m very happy about that but only time will tell. I hope this is a keeper bcz the price point was fabulous. I paid more for just the 20 lb box from the previous brand. You can see from the pics how green their hay is... I’m not lying. I’ll update after going thru the box a bit. This will definitely last a very long time.

## Features

- Feeding Instructions: Standlee recommends selecting a commercial fiber-based, vitamin and mineral fortified food, like PremiYum fortified food, and pair it with high-quality, hand-selected long-stem forage. Timothy Grass is NOT intended to be the only component of the diet. Place forages in a hopper or bin to prevent spoilage. Remove any uneaten forage if it becomes wet, damp, or soiled.
- Storage and Shelf Life: Proper storage includes keeping the product dry and unexposed to the elements. Simply reclosing our specially designed box helps keep our forages dry and free from contamination. Instructions on how to reclose the box are printed on the top flap.
- Healthy Digestive System: Feeding a small amount of fresh forage stimulates chewing, which aids in proper teeth wear and promotes a healthy digestive system.
- Recommended For: Small companion animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, prairie dogs and other herbivores
- Ingredients: Naturally Sun-Cured Premium Western Timothy Grass Forage

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I bought the 25lbs & I want to transfer it into a breathable plastic container for allergy reasons. Does any one know what gallon bin I should buy??**
A: I’ve had to do this myself for allergy reasons. I use a 45 gal container that measures 36” long by 21” wide and 19 1/2” tall/deep. I purchased it at a national retailer not online. But this size allows for the plastic bag the hay is packaged in to be easily lifted and placed directly in the storage bin, and allows for air flow around the hay inside the bin.

I also have a smaller plastic bin I put the hay for the day into so I dont have hay flying around everywhere when feeding my five house rabbits.

**Q: What cut is this? 1st,2nd,3rd?**
A: You won’t know until you receive it, but I have gotten different cuts at different times of the year. All three cuts are high quality and fresh smelling. If you happen to get a 3rd cutting box it can be overwhelming for your pets digestion and you should try to mix it with 1st or 2nd cutting. Personally, I try to keep all three cuttings on hand so I can keep my bunnies from getting picky, but it’s not easy to guess what you will receive. So far I find 1st cutting comes in summer through late fall, 3rd cutting in winter to early spring and 2nd cutting in late spring. But this is not an exact science!

**Q: Is there no way to know what cut you get? i'm really only looking for 2nd cut (my comparison product is small pet select)**
A: Their Hays are from the First or Second cuttings then Sun Cured. It must be a unique process because the box I received, the Hay was really Green, Soft, long & very fragrant. To me it appears like 3rd cut due to the softness but I know it isn’t. My rabbit always eats 2nd cut & she loves this Timothy Hay. Try it I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

**Q: Is this the same as the hay? My guinea pigs don't seem to be eating as much of this grass compared to the amount of Kaytee hay they were eating.**
A: Thank you for your question. Standlee Premium Western Forage Timothy would not necessarily be the same forage as Kaytee as Standlee Products are all grown and manufactured in Idaho. Standlee Premium Western Forage does hand package each small animal package and we do our best at only using the highest quality hay, however being a natural product this can make it somewhat of a challenge. At Standlee Premium Western Forage, we have a 30-day,100% satisfaction guarantee on our products.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Option For Small Show Rabbit Herds
*by M***. on November 11, 2020*

We have been purchasing Standlee brand timothy hay for over 5 years. It serves as a food staple for my children’s small herd of 4H show rabbits. Timothy hay is the most recommended type of hay for rabbits, as it has the right balance of fiber and nutrients. Some people prefer alfalfa hay as feed but I have read that it alfalfa is higher in calcium content than timothy. While this may sound good on the surface, since rabbits are prone to urinary stones if fed too much calcium, timothy is the better option. We tried different brands of timothy hay, available via Amazon and locally. The Standlee brand seems to be fresher than what is typically available on the store shelves and more economical compared to other on-line options. As the herd grew from four to 13 rabbits (I did say it was a SMALL herd), we switched from the 10 lbs box to the 25 lbs option. The shipping box is convenient for storage and the lid flaps and internal bag helps to keep the hay fresh and reduces wasted hay and mess on the floor. We believe this to be the best option and the lifetime of the rabbits prove it. Many of the rabbits have lived beyond their expected lifespan and have won several rabbit shows.
