If it was pink, then however many drops you add to turn it blue, thats how many grains hard your water is. Dilute with soft water (distilled, clean rain water, or previously softened water). Just check that the soft water tests for zero hardness before using it. 1:1 dilution would double your range. 1:9 would extend the range by a factor of 10.
