You do have to help shred. This product does have some chunks. That said .. There was a noticeable difference in odor control. We have 2 cages with 2 pairs in each. As we have been spoiling them with new products and trying to find "keepers" I feel this is one of them. Once they got over me shredding and fluffing and they got curious it was a delight to see them try it out and get a feel for it. And it does last some time so cage maintenance is easier. And they are still able to pick and sort on the bottom as before. (I still line with black & white newspaper, then lay bedding) They also like to chew the chunks btw...WIN WIN 😁 Nice stay fresh package. Friendly customer service. And a decent amount for the price compared to competition. I took a small cardboard box about 6” square and cut it to 3” tall. I just put in a handful of bedding in there with random toys, a little piece of millet, and a mirror; my birds did the rest. I pull out droppings each day and replace all of it every 2 weeks. Little treats go in daily, also.
