I suspect it is because I can make it stronger than they do at Starbucks. That is one of the reasons I did not buy a K-cup brand. While I have never owned one I suspect those little pods cannot make a really strong 16 oz cup of coffee.The machine itself takes up very little counter space - no more than a single cup brewer we had previously. It is easy to use; it must be as I did not read the instructions! It does not require filters but my wife bought some anyway. That just makes cleaning slightly easier and does filter out some of the fine grind that may get through the mesh that the machine comes with.I only use the machine to make a single 16oz cup of coffee so it works fine for less than 4 cups. Starbucks first ground the bag of coffee using cone/paper filter setting. That is too fine. They graciously gave me another bag ground using the Metal setting. That works fine using a rounded 1/4 cup of grounds for 16 oz. But I may try the setting a little coarser than Metal on my next bag. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Nice little coffee maker, especially for the price! *by A***A on Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2019* So far so good. Had this for about a month. It’s quite small — only makes two mugs of coffee at a time — but it gets quite hot so brews a flavorful cup. The mesh filter allows you to make coffee without a paper filter. I use a paper filter along with the permanent filter that comes with it and still get coffee grounds in the pot. That and the fact that it has no auto shut off are my only complaints.
