This tree appears to be a floating cloud, as the name suggests! Acer palmatum 'Ukigumo' is perhaps the most extreme of the variegated Japanese maples. WHEN UKIGUMO ARE YOUNG THEY LOOK LIKE AN ORDINARY GREEN LEAVED JAPANESE MAPLE but after they reach 4-5 years of age they will hold a whitish variegation through the summer. The New Spring growth will be pinkish white sometimes more pink than white and vice versa. Ukigumo is very unique in that it is constantly changing from year to year and from season to season. The leaves are sometimes nearly all-white, with the merest flecks of green; other times possessing much more green with extravagant white markings with pink tips & highlights. Sometimes the new leaves are green with light green specks then they change to mostly white and pink. Planted against a dark background of deep green foliage, the white leaves of 'Ukigumo' lends it all of the impact of a flowering tree, but unlike flowers which are transient, the leaves lend their glow to the garden spring through autumn. It likes well drained soil with high organic matter. Ideal as a specimen, as well as bonsai. A gorgeous tree! 'Ukigumo' awesome!!! Simply a must for the collector. ## Features - FLOATING CLOUDS JAPANESE MAPLE IS TRULY UNIQUE WITH STRONG VEINING OVERLAID BY VARIOUS COLORS! - UKIGUMO APPEARS TO E FLOATING ON CLOUDS AS THE NAME SUGGESTS! - UKIGUMO HAS EVER-CHANGING FOLIAGE, JUST LOOK AT THE IMAGES... I ordered 2 only one survived. The one is doing really well!! I have it in a pot. You will need to kind of baby it at first but it will do well in the sun. It’s in the high 90’s here. But do not expect customer service from them! Never got an answer on the one that died quickly after receiving. **Q: Do you have an updated picture of the tree you can send me please?** A: N0. I don't buy from this vendor. **Q: What size tree is being sold?** A: The vendor lists "2-year old" trees, which I don't believe. I bought a tree from this guy--once--and put it up against a real 2-year tree from a different vendor. More like 2 months is what being sold. **Q: combined shipping** A: Ask the vendor. ## Frequently Bought Together - Floating Cloud Japanese Maple Acer palmatum Ukigumo 2 - Year Tree - Little Sango Dwarf Coral Bark Japanese Maple Acer palmatum 'Little Sango' Coral Red Bark is Bright Red, Year Round Beauty Live Plant - Purple Ghost Japanese Maple Acer palmatum Purple Ghost 2 - Year Live Tree --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.pt/products/12079480-floating-cloud-japanese-maple-acer-palmatum-ukigumo-2-year-tree](https://www.desertcart.pt/products/12079480-floating-cloud-japanese-maple-acer-palmatum-ukigumo-2-year-tree) --- *Product available on Desertcart Portugal* *Store origin: PT* *Last updated: 2026-10-12*
