I remember having to set jumpers on SCSI and ATA drives to get them to talk to the controller. Shoot, I remember having a hole punch to make a single-sided 5.25 floppy into a double-side. I think that all of the fun and excitement of having to have 80-wire ribbon cable and mini-DINs is lost to the current generation. There was absolutely no drama at all in sliding this drive into the case, attaching power and data cables, and having it just work. It runs cool, quiet and happy. It is replacing an old Maxtor drive that could be heard spinning up from two rooms away. That poor old soldier is meeting the hydraulic press later this afternoon.
