I also have the old type cage trap that is very affective, although one has to dispose of a live rats. This is why I purchased the electric trap. This electric trap is useless so you wont be harming any rats in the near future. GOOD LUCK **Q: Can this item be baited as well to increase chances** A: If you don't bait it nothing will go into it. How ever I have been using mine for about three month now and it has proved to be useless. I have now return to my old cage trap with much more success although I once again have dispose of live rats this being the reason I purchased the electric trap in the first place, **Q: So our terrier dog cannot access the trap we plan to site it under a timber shed where rats frequent which is near our oil storage tank. Is that OK?** A: We would not recommend buying this rat zapper at all, as it does not kill rats instantly as stated. We had ours wired in, not even on battery power & it triggered & didn't kill the rat at all. After what seemed like several minutes of the rat screaming every time the buzzing noise started, I tipped the now disabled rat out & put it out of its misery. **Q: The picture shows an American(?) plug. Standard mouse traps would sometimes fail which causes unwanted suffering to the pests while this machine seems to kill them instantly without fail every single time.Never had an issue and we are very pleased. ### ⭐ Doesn't kill rats *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 15 August 2020* This had deployed overnight one night but there was no dead rat in it, I thought maybe it had been very smart and realised in time what was about to happen. A few days later, I caught a rat and let it go at the entrance, it ran inside to hide and the electric shock happened but the poor rat was not killed. It was screaming in pain for all the time the unit was buzzing, then it stopped, it went quiet, then the buzzing started again and the screaming started again. I could bear it no longer so I tipped the rat out, grabbed it by the tail and had to dispatch it quickly with a stick to break its neck and then a brick to make sure it was dead.
