With all that protection, it arrived in perfect condition. I shouldn't have worried. One thing I noticed early was the air holes in the back of the unit, to allow some air circulation, which isn't pictured above. I've read from a few top chefs online that bread needs air and should not be kept in an air-tight container. I accepted their word, which is why I chose this style of bread bin. The bin is very light, roomy, clean and attractive and arrived in perfect working order. I'll update again when I have had time to determine if my bread lasts longer than without it, but so far, I'm happy with purchase and happy to recommend.
