This is function perfectly for story items in the garage, we have one at one wall and another will go on the opposite wall. Wahoo no more junk on the floor. Oh and hubby wants to mention, if you place this right up against the wall, it may be tough getting the shelf on as you need a little room to hold it all still. I have 2 of these and I have a good 400lbs on 1 and 200 on the other and they have held just fine. If it fell, it wasn't installed correctly. **Q: Is the ceiling anchor bracket 16 to 24 inches long so one can span perpendicular over two ceiling joists to properly secure the rack?** A: Janet,First off, my ceiling joist run front to back in my garage. My racks are mounted on the back wall with the 48" width going front to back and the 96" length side to side. The predrilled mounting holes are spaced 16" apart along the long side and 24" on the side. Therefore, they are ready as you receive them for for both. The vertical adjustable drop straps are mounted every 48" so it doesn't make any difference which spacing your ceiling joist is since every 48" they match up anyway. If you put the rack in a back corner of a garage you could mount it with the short side on the back wall and the long side along the side wall. In that case you would need to either have 24" spacing in your ceiling joist or buy 3 48" (you can buy them this length at a hardware store, Lowes or Home Depot) pieces of angle iron to span 16" joist then use any of the holes available to get the 24 and 48" spacing at the ceiling.
