I used to have problems with my lawnmower after storing it for any length of time, but not anymore. A little bit of this in the fuel can before adding it to the mower, weedeater, or leaf blower keeps it fresh and prevents gumming. Now my yard equipment starts right up every time 1st or second pull. I highly recommend this fuel stabilizer to anyone who wants to avoid engine trouble. It's a great price for how many gallons it can treat and it'll save you a lot of money in the long run. I don't know if there is a shelf life on the product itself, but I've been using this stuff for over a year and haven't had any issues. And it's now on Amazon! Only thing to add - look if you have EXTREMELY old fuel WITH a lot of water in it then you'd be better off draining the tank. Will this stuff work? Possibly, but not on something like a weedeater or chainsaw etc. So my advice is to treat the fuel before you put it in your machine and store the leftover fuel in a relatively stable temperature variation.
