I have three of them in one of my machine. To be clear, it converts a sata drive to IDE so it can be plugged into an old machine that is IDE only. It does not convert an IDE drive to sata. I have tried it on multiple HDDs and two optical drives. I have had no issues just leaving everything as cable select. If you want a device to convert an IDE drive to sata, try this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081YP2S5R.
