What is the finish on the surface?** A: It’s MDF with laminate, basically white formica **Q: How much weight can the shelf hold?** A: I don't really know what the maximum weight would be. I have 7-8 framed pictures on each shelf. Works well for that amount. **Q: How much does the shelf itself weigh? Trying to see if I can use command picture strips (velcro, 16 lb per) to hold this up** A: It’s not that heavy, but I wouldn’t attempt to hang it with anything other than screws that it comes with. I would have fears that over time the weight of objects on the shelf would be an issue. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful, exactly as pictured *by M***) on April 14, 2021* We bought these shelves for extra picture book storage and placed them, one above the other, in our main hallway. It's not the widest space but these shelves fit very well, being deep enough to house quite a few books but not so deep that they're in the way. We're pretty klutzy and none of us have run into them yet.Mounting the shelves on the wall was a little challenging, but this was due to the studs being difficult to find and not a reflection on the product which came with easy to read instructions as well as good quality mounting hardware.We did add some small, cute L-brackets beneath the shelves to make sure they're secured well to the studs. This probably isn't *really* necessary but we tend to overstuff bookshelves, so it seemed a wise and simple precaution.The shelves were packaged very well and arrived in immaculate condition. We're very happy with them and plan on buying more for both picture book and small stuffed toy storage.
