I completely agree with the previous three reviewers, Robert Essner, Usually Pleased and D. Goldman. They are spot on and I will not repeat again here. I will be a little more critical here in my review of this book, mostly in reference to the publisher Rockynook than the Author Darrell Young. 1. Thumbnail, Icons and Images used in this book: a. Thumbnails & Icons used are much to small (need magnifying glass to read), Ref: page 11-15. b. Screen shots throughout are much to small, hard to read. The size used with screen shot, page 19 Fig. 2.1A was perfect and useful. Ref: page 16 Fig. 1.8 to small and washed out! c. Images of camera in discussion: To small, washed out and not sharp! Ref: Page xii, xiii, 3 and page 4 (worst of them all) Fig. 1.2Darrel, I have many of your Mastering Books, D700, D800, D4/D4s and more just to name a few and I have never been disappointed until now! I believe all is good with your work, but this is a photography book and I would suppose that the images should be the very best resolution, sharpness and exposure, both in light and shadow areas. Not so with my new printed book, dark, unsharp etc...Constructive recommendations: 1. 7/16" x 7/16" Icons used should not be less than at least 3/4" x 3/4" min. 2. It might be a better consideration to us the Olympus Chrome model for the camera picture, might show the features, levers and buttons better. 3. Screen Shots of 1-5/8" x 1-1/16" menus used, should be no less than 3' x 2" as used in Ref: Fig. 2.1A Page 19 and used throughout the book as the smallest for menu screen shots.What I found missing was anything about the great Olympus Pro lenses used and designed more specifically for the E-M1, like the Pro 12-40mm f2.8, Pro 40-150mm f2.8 and the soon to be Pro 300mm f4. Also the MFT 1.4 TC, Battery Grip and flash attachments that work best with the E-M1.Bottom Line is, I prefer your Writing Style-Info Presented over David Busch but David Busch's Graphics and Photography/Images are much more professional in his book I also own, "Olympus OM-D E-M1 Digital Photography Pub. by Cengage Learning. I believe again that the main issues I address are more a publisher issue than yours, they need to address this for a better quality book. I rate you Darrell Young at a strong 5 Stars but Rockynook at 3 Stars. I do realize that my suggestions would probably raise the cost to the publisher but I As A Returning, Faithful Customer, "WOULD PAY THAT PRICE!" Will up date my review if a 2nd edition addresses these mentioned shortcomings!! :-)V/R The PhotogDog (Kent)I JUST PURCHASED THE KINDLE EDITION! I love it, resolves all the issues I stated above and more! Graphics are perfect on my 27" Mac and Kindle, iPad, Acer Iconia and Samsung GalaxyS4 etc. I am now converting my entire Photog Library to Digital. I will be purchasing Hard Print Copies only if not in a Digital format from here-on-out!! Everything about this book has helped for gaining so much from the two OM-D E-M10 cameras (one silver and a black metal model) I bought for my son and me. Mastering the Olympus OM-D E-M1 is very detailed, instructive, insightful and truly well written for quick and easy understanding. We've been getting the most and best from this powerful DSLR camera (and HD video camera) as a result of this book. Don't worry about the model number in the book title. This well illustrated book has plenty for all OM-D model owners. I also bought Supercharging the Olympus OM-D E-M10 as well to use as a specific model companion book for our cameras. Both editions, in Kindle format, are highly useful for us on the go or during extended travel to read on our smartphones. Definitely buy this book if you really want to know the OM-D. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Every EM1 owner should have this book *by U***D on Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2015* This book will teach EM1 owners everything they want to know to get the most out their camera. It does this by going through entire menu system, which may seem to be a very boring approach, but isn't. It's what the manual should be, and more. And it does that really well.It's well written and easy to follow. The comments that don't appear in a manual are also very helpful. Why an option is there, and how and when it should be used. Darrell explains that he is a landscape and nature photographer, and in that context explains why he has his camera set up in a certain way. Then he explains how the settings might differ for other types of photography.The book provides the user with the confidence to use the camera settings and know what will be achieved, especially with settings that are co-dependent.It's not a book that one can just read. Have your camera in hand, with a couple of charged batteries, and set your camera up the way you'd like it to be.I only take photos in raw mode, and post-process the ones that I like. Even the, this book has already improved the quality of my photos and is saving me time.Learning about how to get the most out of OI.Share and Olympus Capture, the software that makes it possible to control the camera remotely using IOS/Android or a Mac/PC is most helpful.What is a little strange is that the book (and publicity) mentions that the FPS on L sequential shooting mode was increased from 6.5 to 9 FPS in the upgrade to the firmware v 3.0. After the upgrade it's still at 6.5. The release of the book was timed to coincide with the release of the update. It seems that the big change was not ready for the release date.That's not the author's fault, and does not detract from the book.What I would have liked was a section in the book that explained how to best set up the camera for specific types of photography. Say wedding photographs, sports, children, sunsets, parties and so on. Yes, he does touch on these things, and yes it could be subject of a complete book.
