Tried it with a smaller diameter punch, and it started to mushroom and flatten the tip. Upon installation of the new site, I could use a smaller punch. The brass that was left on the slide easily wiped off when I was finished. I recommend these for working on firearms. We need at least 8 inches long.** A: They are approximately 3.47 inches long. **Q: Are these punches made in usa?** A: Made in India. These are only about 3" long and are very soft. They will bend if you apply too much pressure or hit with a large hammer. I bought them to loosen a lock ring on a gas tank. With brass, no chance for a spark. I did manage to get the lock ring loosened, but ruined the largest punch in the process. **Q: Do they still come with a nylon pouch or has this been replaced by a clear plastic pouch, as is suggested by some of the recent (June 2019) reviews?** A: Mine came in the nylon pouch. Ordered/delivered in May 2019. Great product by the way. **Q: Is the shaft diameter the same size across all of the punches?** A: I'm not sure what you are asking........Each punch is a different shaft diameter. The hex portion of the punches is the same size. Some nice to know info: I used this set of punches to change out the factory trigger on a Remington 700. I used the two smallest brass punches to drive out the retainer pins. When I was finished, both punches had bent shafts. I specialize in Curio Relics. Some of the firearms I handle are 70+ years of age. Much of the exterior nomenclature has never been removed. Front iron sights are especially tough. I was trying to remove the front iron sight from a WWII Rifle. I had the right sizes to do the job. 2 out of 3 bent. As for as the manufacturer their product is fine. I will have to find punches that are nearer industrial grade that are tailored to what I do.
