Review: Damn good mirror finish - UPDATE : No Idea how i didnt figure this out sooner but I was looking for a plated silver look originally when getting this. Really wanted that mirror shine and I kinda forgot to tell anyone how you get it when using this . Otherwise you ll end up with a metallic look that kinda reflects. This is by far the best paint for this. step 1. Use a dark primer preferably black. if you use primer. spray on light but last coat spray it till you see it become liquid y and shiny and quickly move to a new section. hanging out on spraying as it gets shiny too long and it will pool paint and ruin it. step 2. Use a high gloss lacquer black as your backer. If your primer is somewhat glossy or semi gloss looking this will almost look like a mirror finish. do a light coat to adhere then follow up with coverage coat ( medium ) then heavy coat looking for that glossy look in the paint. Soon as you see your reflection move to a different spot. step 3. You are almost done. After everything is dry VERY lightly spray your chrome paint on and if your surface was high gloss black it will instantly start looking like chrome mirror on the first pass. You can do additional coats but also go very lightly as it will start to remove a the black reflection with every pass. If done right your mirror chrome should reflect everything like it was real silver plating. OLD Review : Ok I have been looking for alternative paints for a while and a big deal has been the mirror finish i want. I saw this on desertcart and was glad to find it was fairly cheep and decided to try it out. well i reviewed one of the color change paints and was fairly impressed with that and did the same test. I did 2 coats of the of the chrome mirror and it instantly was better than some of my more expensive my mr hobby paints. I good example would be a drop got on my hand and it instantly looked like i had dropped solder on my hand and was instantly reflective and this is on my skin!!! no black paint and this looks great already which will be better when I do it up propper. If you get a grey look out of this then you probably mixed it with the wrong paint. You need to make sure you are using the write top coat before covering a finished work. Some top coats or clear coats will dull the finish. buy it!! Review: Pretty cool! With a couple caveats. - Using with an airbrush on plastic models. This gets by far the best mirror finish of anything I've tried when used properly. It needs to be applied to a glossy base. You CAN spray it on bare plastic if it's glossy enough, but the adhesion by itself is not good so I would recommend a gloss lacquer base (I just used a spray can of model master black). You can spray it on, right out of the bottle, no thinner needed. It goes on really smooth, it's very easy to work with. After it dries for a few minutes (dries very quickly) it'll look a little dull, but just lightly buff it with a paper towel and you'll get a brilliant mirror chrome finish. Because of this buffing stage, I again don't recommend going on bare plastic because you might rub some paint off. It also might not be as good if you're painting something that is difficult to buff (small intricate surface). It seems I've been using it for candy coats to nice effect. Now the downside: This stuff goes QUICK and the bottle is small. Because it's pre-thinned, it just disappears down your airbrush. And it's a little pricey as well.
