Handle is lightly varnished Beechwood. Carbon steel blade is 2" long x 7/16" wide x .030 thick. Blade has nicely ground finish, it has a mild convex or appleseed, not flat, grind to the cutting edge, no bevels. Not real sharp but will suit most people, I sharpend mine to shaving sharp. This is a friction folding knife, mine has an easy pull without being so easy as to flop open. Blade locks are only on sizes 6-13 so be carefull.This is my second Opinel, the other is a #6. The 6 is, size wise, similar to a medium stockman, while the 4 is similar in size to a Case or Rough Rider Peanut(see photos). This knife fits well in the watch pocket of my jeans and hardly noticeable by me. The blade is pretty thin making it a good slicer and usefull for many small tasks.
