A friend turned us onto Counter Assault after he started carrying it to help with walks in the park. He and his dogs kept getting attacked by off-leash and stray dogs. He was able to keep from being attacked on multiple occasions by large dogs that would come after them at the park. The only downside is that some dog owners were angry that he fended off their dog’s attack. Go figure.Well, for those of us who get tired of off-leash out-of-control dogs scaring or injuring our dogs (and us), Counter Assault works great. While one friend whose dog was injured badly had thought of needing to carry a weapon of some sort, this bear attack preventative saves injury all the way around.Frankly, this spray is a must for anyone who walks either alone or with their dog. There are too many people out there who don’t control their animals.Very pleased with this bear spray.

Having never had to use this in a defensive situation, I can’t speak to its effectiveness. However, I’ll trust that it’s better than not carrying it. Make sure to replace you canister if it’s at or past the expiration date. I had an old can that was 6 months past expired so I decided to deploy it in the back yard. It didn’t propel the spray as far as the 30 foot label indicated. Range is important with this stuff.

I bought this as a replacement for an expired one that I bought years ago--same size and fits in the same holster. I'm thankful I've never needed to use this, but it definitely adds confidence while hiking alone or with a small group in the backcountry.

Spray/application not too reassuring & it's really expensive!
