The head is larger diameter. I don't have it to measure but the chuck is for 3/16 rod. **Q: Can I fit a 1/4 in drill bit** A: No, the socket is designed to closely fit a 3/16" shank. No matter how much and often you tighten the screws, the extension simply strips the driver and it spins off. I lost my bit twice in the wall and had to make the extra holes I was trying to avoid simply to retrieve my bit.
