This shoe was, literally, the very last shoe I looked at. I was already to to pull the trigger and buy a pair of Merrell Moab’s Gore-Tex. I have looked at over 100 different shoes and the Moab Rover was the best one I found. I had a lot of narrow it down do in my research. First I have a wide foot that requires a wide shoe. This eliminated almost a lot of shoe companies because they just don’t make or sell wide sizes. Second I needed a shoe for day hiking. I am over 60 years old, so you can see my new hobby will require a good shoe and one that reviewed as comfortable and waterproof, and has a great sole for traction and stability. Now narrowed down to a wide, waterproof and comfortable shoe, with a Vibram outsole, I looked for one with minimal break-in time.With all this in mind, I spent the next several weeks (driving my wife and kids crazy) and came up with the Merrell Moab Gore-Tex. But wait, just as I completed my research, I ran across the Moab Rover.It was perfect in all respects. The Rover is: Waterproof, hiking shoe with Vibram outsole, high comfort ratings and a great price point.I received the shoes and all my research was spot on. I am now wearing them at work as the style meets the dress code criteria. They are like walking on a cloud. They fit like a glove on my crappy feet. The toe box is perfect and has the room for the width of my feet. The heel has the Merrell air cushion and it does absorb shock and adds stability as I climb stairs all day at work. The soles are the Vibram outsole and I have plenty of grip and traction. I feel I will have a minimum break in as they are so comfortable and fit so well that I will have them well seasoned prior to our day hikes.Pros: Well just read above and check out Amazon and the Merrell web site. The reviews are spot on.Cons: I have none at this time, nor do I anticipate any.I plan to make Merrell my go to shoes unless something better pops up, but again I don’t see that happening. But again, I research everything to the point of nausea.Oh; Forgot to mention, I live outside of New Orleans and go there often, Have you ever walked the streets of the French Quarter in regular shoes? The Rover takes the cobblestones and uneven walks with perfect stride. This was the true test, and they passed with flying colors.Would I recommend to a friend? The leather helps to dress them up a bit, making them more versatile. Zero complaints with the waterproofing, and I've put them to the test.
