Very impressive. Good, high energy story with a strong character arc. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Alita battle angel! *by T***N on December 16, 2025* I really enjoyed this movie. It had impressive visuals, excellent sound design, a strong plot, and was overall an engaging and well-executed film. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A great adaptation *by V***R on July 10, 2019* So, I was a huge fan of the original Alita anime and mangas growing up (this, Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, X, etc). I was trepidatious going into this viewing because my attachment to the original material meant I would probably be unreceptive to large-scale changes. I intentionally did not go to see this in theaters (I regret this now) and I also did not read any reviews or follow advertising plugs for it, because if they took too many liberties with the film, I knew I'd be primed to dislike it. I also did not revisit the source material (though I own multiple copies of the original OVA) for the same reasons. All that said, I found this to be a very faithful (not perfect) adaptation of the OVAs for what I remember (it's been several years since I put the OVA on). There are changes, but you'd have to be a purist on an abhorrent level to be upset by them. The actors and actresses did their jobs very well, the CGI is phenomenal, Alita looks great in particular. I enjoyed the battle sequences... I was worried going into the derby scene that they'd spend too much time on her showing up her skating skills or screw the flow up with too much baseless action (ala Transformers), instead it was handled perfectly. The scene where she is in the sewer fighting the giant is fantastic and a wonderful job was done displaying Alita's warrior spirit. Overall I found the film incredibly entertaining and engaging, I'm giving it 5*s because it sets a standard for anime-to-big-screen adaptions that should be observed by anyone else who seeks to do the same thing (Ghost in the Shell, I'm looking at you). My only complaint is they spent so much time making Alita look naive and innocent, I do not recall getting that kind of an impression about her psychologicaly in the OVA, however, it's been a while since I watched it and tend to remember her primarily in the hunter-killer phase of her character evolution.
