The packaging and item state "Dual-Mount" design, but only for a hot shoe mount or 1/4-20 mount. I don't know where the 3/8 got into the mix, there is no such option. It is capable of being mounted directly to a stand with 5/8 thread, although I haven't tried. I have a Gitzo G557 boom pole which has 3/8 thread on the end, female. Fortunately I cut the end off a hot shoe adapter I had that had both 3/8 and 1/4 threads and was able to make it work. My one complaint was the shoe mount for the camera, which I was unable to tighten. This caused the whole thing flop around. I resolved this by adding a small piece of rubber gasket under the screw.
