I typically put the curved surface toward the sky. More for looks. Many times it has flipped and I never see an issue with reception. **Q: Does this work for two-way satphone?** A: If the satphone has an MMCX connector and needs to receive a GPS signal, then probably. It's not made for that application, though. **Q: I think i have the latest version of the case (has a hole for an external antenna), so how do i install this antenna? do i need to use the pigtail?** A: The short answer, yes. If I remember correctly the short ‘jumper wire’ you are referring to connects to the GPYes board and the other end goes into an existing hole in the case or to a hole you drill if there is not one in the case. Once installed you will have the external connection point for your external antenna. **Q: is it waterproof?** A: I don't think so. My internal was giving me in the range of 10 to 20+ meters tested but not in direct view. I am sure I would do better if I had placed it under the canopy of the 172 but I wasn't flying and just testing from the back seat. I added the external and tested it yesterday from the back seat again and it was getting 3 to 10 meters consistently. I waited to long and now I can't return the antenna and I have no use for it. No big deal just be sure you can use it before you order.
