## Description

Product Description SIGMA 17-50MM LENS CANON F/2. 8 LARGE APETURE LENS Set Contains: Sigma

Review: Clear sharp noisy lens - Great lens. Very good image quality with very little color distortion, more luminous than its kit equivalent. And it is very confortable that the f2.8 mantains itself, which makes it an easy to use lens for begginers. Correct autofocus and stabilization, the motor is a bit noisy while filming (if you are looking for a lens for streaming purpouses keep looking). If you are looking for a versatile lens for photography this is a good price/quality option.
Review: Great Lens - Short answer is this is my favorite lens and does the best for the widest range of my activities. I'm not a professional photog I'm a a professional dad. Which is to say my subjects are high energy quick little buggers. For me this lens works perfectly and gives me many more usable shots than the kit 18-55 F3.5-5.6 and the nifty fifty. My only gripe is that I'd love to have this same lens from 17-70mm (as the extra reach would capture more candid shots), or full frame compatible (the Canon 17-55 F2.8 lens isn't Full Frame compatible either but it doesn't stop me from wanting that feature). What does this lens afford? Better Autofocus than the kit Canon 18-55 F3.5-5.6, a fixed F2.8 over the range, and a very usable zoom range. Where it lacks: Not Full Frame compatible, limited Manual focus range(although it has better markings for setting the hyperfocal distance than the canon F2.8), and corner softness full open (not as bad as I thought it would be and unnoticeable by F5.6). The Autofocus is perfect and just as fast as the kit canon. Comparing both lenses at F5.6 over the whole zoom range I had more keepers with this Sigma which was surprising to me. I figured the Sigma would be worse... I believe this is because the F2.8 allows the lens to use the cross point AF even if stopped down (the body autofocuses wide open and stops down for the shot, so more light to the autofocus makes it more accurate). So while this autofocus speed and accuracy beat my kit canon it probably isn't as good as the Canon F2.8 equivilent. The nifty fifty (50mm F1.8) lens is great for low light and really low depth of field but I found out my functional minimum was about F2.8-4 depending on shooting conditions this is because the kids are always moving and usually there are multiple subjects in the shot so anything smaller and nobody's in focus. So this sigma beats out the nifty fifty most of the time because I get zoom and it functionally meets my minimum aperture. Although this lens is noticeably sharper at F2.8. So bottom line is The Sigma 17-50 F2.8 autofocuses better than the Canon Kit lens, has a zoom range that captures almost all my needs and cost considerably less than the Canon equivilent F2.8 lens. As neither this or the Canon equivilent are full frame compatable, I don't see where the extra cost of the Canon is worth the minor improvements it provides especially if you plan to upgrade in the future to full frame. And if you can move up a f-stop I would highly recommend giving the Canon EF 17-40 F4 lens a try over the either this Sigma or the Canon EF-S 17-55 F2.8, unfortunatly I have found I use the F2.8 setting for depth of field so much I can't give it up on my Crop Body (remember a full frame at F4 is about the same depth of field as a crop at F2.8).

## Features

- FLD glass elements along with two glass mold elements and one hybrid aspherical lens provide excellent correction of aberrations and allow for incredibly sharp images with great contrast

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Lens I Own...Even more than 24-70mm f2.8 L.
*by E***G on September 13, 2014*

Absolutely my favorite lens of all. As a "semi-pro" and extreme hobbyist I must say that I like the quality of images from this lens on my Canon T3i even more than I like the quality of images from my Canon 5D Mark iii and the 24-70mm f2.8 L series lens; which would be the full frame equivalent to this lens on a APS-C sensor. Yes! I know that at this juncture some of you may be shaking your heads, but it is true. Granted, the 5D does have better image quality and more megapixels, but time and time again I get better images from this lens on my crop sensor cameras. Would you rather get almost the same image quality out of a lens that is 1/4 the expense? I sure as heck would. This lens paired with a T2i, T3i, T4i, or T5i will yield similar or better image quality in most situations than the 24-70mm f2.8 L series lens will on a full frame camera. Which if you are on a budget this is the lens for you! The images are so tack sharp and spot on. I read through many of the 1 star reviews and realized that the majority of the complaints come from Canon users that "got a bad copy" of the lens. As for me, I have a great copy. It is 3rd party glass but better than ANY canon glass I own (Once again some of you are shaking your heads). To me it's worth the gamble, and as long as you got it on Amazon and it doesn't work...send it back for a full refund! In addition to photography, the creamy bokeh that you get from this lens on video is astounding as well. The image stabilization, Optical Stabilization for Sigma (OS), is spot on. The only down side to the OS is that you can hear the gears working as you shift around hand-holding. Not so loud that it would be awkward while shooting an event. The focus ring has minimal resistance which I like; It allows you to get to rack focus faster. The auto focus is spot on and fast. The focus ring also stops at infinity focus as well at it's minimum distance. A feature I like because you know at what distance your subject is and you can switch subjects quickly. For manual focus you should be able to rack focus with a short minimal turn; unlike other lenses that require you to take your hand off the focus ring and do a second turn. Some would say that f2.8 isn't fast enough, but I find it to be plenty fast for most practical applications. You will not regret this purchase!
