Any suggestions as to why?** A: My energisers (I have two) used to give about 4 or 5k volts on long runs with triple layered tape. Now they have to energise much shorter runs of two levels of tape. The shorter one goes up to 10k and the longer generally shows about 6k. Is it that your run of tape is not particularly long? It might just be a case of that. Otherwise, I don't know. **Q: How do you change the batteries?** A: A bit fiddly, Unscrew the crosshead screw on the back and remove. gently prise the two halves of the body apart, working from the loop at the bottom to the top. This exposes the entire circuit board. This simply falls out of the casing, so does the red button. You'll find the 'hearing aid' battery housed on the back of the circuit board. I did not actually try to remove this, as it is still working fine. Put the circuit board back on its two lugs (where it says 'high voltage' and reassemble. You have to take care not to lose or drop anything, but it is not difficult. **Q: How does this work? Does it earth through your contact with the ground instead of a spike?** A: It has a small battery inside. You si.ple touch the metal plate on the back to the fen6you want to test , press and hold the red button and the appropriate number of light come on, more lights, more volts. I think the battery provides a reference voltage or something. Earthing is NOT needed. I like it. Only problem Is that the back plate is narrower than most electric fence tape, so you have to fiddle a bit to get a good contact, or find a place where the tape has folded over.. BTW pressing the red button light a red light. If it does not, the battery needs changing.
