The speed is decent but don't expect too much here. Like that it comes with 2 batteries so one can be charging. It has bounced down our carpeted stairs multiple times but be aware that the steering components are plastic and a serious blow could have you making repairs. The controller is a pistol grip type but you can tell it functions like the push button styles inside. I recently tried to repair a similar unit where a child had turned the wheel too hard and had badly damaged the internals. Just make sure you let the kids know that when you feel and hear it "click", that's as far as it goes both on the steering and trigger.
