Both the Hario ceramic dripper and the Hario server have a flat surface that allows you to put them one in top of the other. The station is recommended to avoid a quick movement that could cause one or both to break, but with proper handle you can use them without the station. First, the craftsmanship of this carafe is very fine and excellent. Yes, it is delicate glass. You will not be placing this on a burner to keep your coffee hot, but if you pre-warm this carafe with some hot water before brewing your coffee into it, it will keep your coffee at optimal drinking temperature. Furthermore, the markings on the carafe allow you to see how much coffee you have brewed when doing pour-over into it. 400 ml is a good sized mug of coffee. Get the 600ml carafe if you want to make two cups of your favorite brew to share. If you couple this carafe with Hario's ceramic dripper the fit and finish is perfect. You will be brewing and serving pour over coffee like a pro and the coffee will taste fantastic. Tip: hand wash and dry this carafe. I would not put it in a dishwasher and risk 'scrubbing off' the markings on the carafe. Handle the carafe carefully since it is delicate glass. It is not made to be like a Pyrex glass utensil that can hold up to oven temperatures. I really do not have anything negative to write.
