Didn't even need it at first but when the pump shut down the AC output I hooked it up. seemed to work but I have still had some shut downs while using it. I believe the shut downs may be because the Generator was Also charging one of the extra batteries at the same time and the inrush current was greater than the generator could handle. I have not changed the factory setting.
