You really only need to change it out when you start losing water pressure. The big blue filter you see in the pics have various life spans. The longest being 10 years or 1,000,000 gallons. Based on my water usage of a family of four, I'll hit 1,000,000 gallons around 15 years. **Q: How does the 600,000 gal filter compare to this one as far as size is concerned?** A: Except for a longer pre-filter and the addition of a post-filter, the 1,000,000-gallon Aquasana is essentially the same size as the 600,000 one.
