Kim Karr’s Toxic is just that. It is a second chance romance filled with truly emotional moments. There are ups and downs, lies, surprises, secrets and delicious steamy sex scenes all cleverly written into a perfect book.This is my first Kim Karr book and I have to say, I loved it! Phoebe and Jeremy are an incredibly hot couple. Just like the title, their love, their connection is Toxic, like a drug you cannot get enough of. Their chemistry is sizzling. Kim took me on an emotional roller coaster that was totally worth the ride. You see, this is the type of book that keeps a reader totally engaged. Just when I thought one thing, another revelation or plot twist developed. I loved everything about Phoebe and Jeremy, from the way they met, their first night together, to the way they carried on and ended. I cheered for them and wanted to see this couple together. I wanted the forgiveness and the happy ever after for them.I do admit to having moments when I wanted to slam my kindle. But in the end, I am glad I kept on reading.The characters are all unique and wonderful. Jeremy, well… he is simply divine, charming and complex. He is quite the character. Phoebe, is a beautiful and brilliant woman who wants what every woman wants, the man of her dreams, the one she cannot forget. Their friends, supportive and real are significant in the development of this story. Poppy, Phoebes mother, although I disliked her at first, grew on me. While there were many frustrating moments, in the end, I was delighted to see all of the characters come full circle.The ending brought clarity to all those moments of angst and frustration. All of those moments that made me crazy were worth it for this couple.Kim Karr, you have a new fan.I gave this book 5 stars. There is nothing about it that stands out or hasn’t been done before, making it kind of forgettable. I can’t say I was impressed that the entire plot was built solely on hasty decisions, poor communication and pointless drama either. How many times can a person disappear and not answer their phone?If you’re familiar with this genre, you know - good girl from a wealthy family, falling for the ‘bad boy’ with a chip on his shoulder - is a pretty common storyline. I’m not saying it’s one I don’t enjoy, but the ensuing drama and the constant back and forth between Phoebe and Jeremy was a bit much. It was an endless cycle of fighting, running away, making up and broken promises - over and over. Kudos to whoever came up with the title because this definitely becomes ‘toxic’ for everyone involved - including this reader.All of my issues with Phoebe and Jeremy’s story centers around the complete lack of development. Instead of delivering a plot that was dynamic and had some sort of depth, the author threw in one dramatic event after another to keep the story moving. It felt cheap and entirely too easy.With all that said - Jeremy McQueen is definitely book boyfriend material. There’s no denying, he’s the very best part of the story.Craving something different from what I’ve been reading lately, I went for my seventh Kim Karr book. It’s been sitting on my shelf forever and I figured I knew what I was in for. Wrong. I couldn’t look past the drama, the rushed ending (seriously this all happens in a few weeks?) and the non-stop back and forth.
