Vibration activates the timer so once you stick it onto the mower it starts once the engine is switched on. Although winter is upon us now here in the UK so I won't be using my mower until spring, it does say for my mower to be serviced every twenty hours of runtime. I've always had to just kind of guess when that twenty hours is up. This thing will be able to keep a better track of it for me.The display is clear enough to read, it picks up the engine electrical pulses well and it's easy to install. The battery is built in so cannot be changed, which is a little disappointing. I'm sure it helps with the weatherproofing of the device but it also limits the lifespan too, which is definitely a negative.Not a bad little thing and handy for service intervals or gauging fuel consumption rates.
