There are items in the DaVinci that seem to be missing from the superkit, such as the RFID, the keypad, ultrasonic range module, joystick and others. The DaVinci kit consists of a set of projects you can work through. I've done the LED project and the LED bar so far, planning to do the LCD display next and you can combine with the Minecraft API if you like too. On the other hand, the superkit seems to have a case for your project. Hope this helps. **Q: Do you have to solder things together?** A: I Have the DaVinci kit but I think this kit will be the same. You get a breadboard and lots of jumper cables so no soldering is required (I should add that I haven't built all of the experiments yet but all the ones I have built use the breadboard). **Q: Do I need to buy the raspberry pi or anything else to work this? He has a "Raspberry Pi Series for Absolute Beginners" (covering this kit or the slightly upgraded version of this kit) and he has a "New Arduino Tutorials" (covering the ELEGOO Uno R3 Project The Most Complete Ultimate Starter Kit) playlist. His YouTube series is free to access and he is one of the best instructors that I have came across. You and your kid will likely learn a lot more looking and following along with his tutorials and homeworks then using the manuals.
