For my wife's car though, she really didn't want a lot of extra equipment in her new CRV and wanted it as close to factory looking in all areas so I had to just go ahead and get the 5 channel amp. Installation was as easy as every Alpine amp. All of the terminals are great quality and really bite and hold on the wires so I know nothing will slip out. Tuning is a breeze and I barely had to tough the gains at all to get this amp just screaming, easily 3x more powerful than the factory 200w system in there before. The 5th channel for the sub was also equally impressive with it's power output. Powering an aftermarket 8" sub, custom molded into a factory enclosure, you would think there was a 12" sitting in the cargo area. The main thing I was super impressed with was just how smooth and even the highs and lows stay together at all volume levels. I don't think I will ever buy anything outside of the Alpine family again, unless they just simply don't make what I'm looking for. This amp will power them @ 40W each. You're safe there. You'll enter distortion (a bad thing) before you hit 85W unless the amp is seriously underrated. Now the Sub is a little bit trickier in some way as you don't specify much about it. I assume it's an Alpine SWS-12D4 which can be wired to 2Ξ©. At 2Ξ©, you'll only see 250W on the sub, or about half what it can handle. Your safe. If that is the SWS-12D2, well, you're worse off in some ways. The amp isn't rated for 1Ξ©, so it may have issues attempting to squeeze more power out that way (blow up, enter protect, put out even less power, blow a fuse)., But wired for 4Ξ©, you'll see even less power. **Q: This looks different than what Alpine shows on their website. This amp is driving four Alpine Type-S speakers and an Alpine SBR-S8-4 8" sub. The sound is clean to levels that I would never go to, so it has more than enough power for the casual setup. Installation and setup was easy, but I did already have an Alpine amp in place, so that simplified matters.
