( side note .. make sure any air stones are above the gravel .. my powerhead was sucking air through the tube until i moved it ) **Q: Will this work with course sand? Or will it fill with sand?** A: Yes it should work , use an air pump do not use filter motor , you want the water to flow. A motor will create pressure. If you’re concerned about sand filling the tube use a weed blocking fabric. Gardeners been using this fabric to block the sunlight out but water still goes through it **Q: Will it work for a tank wifh no gravel?** A: Not really... The gravel weighs it down and is PART of the filtration process... That'sa THE POINT of an under gravel filter **Q: Can this be adapted/connected to a canister filter's intake?** A: I have a gravel filtration system with an external canister and I literally never have to change my water on a 55 gallon. I add water as needed and clean the filter maybe once a month ## Frequently Bought Together - Undergravel Filteration Bottom Circular Bar 45.3\x 9.6 Under Gravel Filter Tube Aquarium - Marineland Maxi-Jet 600, Multi-Use Water Pump And Power Head, Fully Convertible (ML90510), 160/750 GPH - Penn-Plax Undergravel Aquarium Filter for 40-55 Gallon Tanks – Four 11.25” x 11.25” Plates – Under Gravel System for Clear, Clean Water – Safe for Freshwater and Saltwater Tanks (CFU55) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.pt/products/16796285-undergravel-filteration-bottom-circular-bar-45-3-x-9-6](https://www.desertcart.pt/products/16796285-undergravel-filteration-bottom-circular-bar-45-3-x-9-6) --- *Product available on Desertcart Portugal* *Store origin: PT* *Last updated: 2026-10-24*
