Unlike their previous choices for alligator clips vs. ring terminals, this doesn't include separate pig-tails for each. Rather, the ring terminal is screwed into the alligator clip and to choose that option you simply remove the alligator clip from its ring terminal mate. In the past they provided separate pig-tails and I find their current design far more limiting due to the small diameter of the ring terminal. Nevertheless, working with the alligator clips works for me (but honestly, I would have preferred to install these pig-tails on the battery's tandem screw posts). Whatever. One thing that they don't tell you is what happens when you unplug it. Well, the device comes up defaulting to lithium (hmmm, strange). The boat has the most basic standard flooded batteries. When you unplug the device it "chooses" the last setting you used so that means you don't have to constantly tell it what battery technology you're using. It would have been a really annoying oversight had they not programmed the charger to do this. Not a fatal flaw but an inconvenience nevertheless. So - NON ISSUE - thanks Deltran for anticipating this. Also, the unit is huge and rather heavy compared to their other products. It's mountable, but for me it's too big to mount in the compartment that would have made the most sense. Or do you have to push buttons to select battery type/size/charge rate?** A: This is NOT a charger that I would recommend to bring back a dead battery as it is, in reality, a trickle charger. it will charge slowly and maintain a charge for you automatically. It is specifically for 12V batteries. **Q: Will this unit charge 2 12V batteries in the same amount of time it would take using 2 separate 12V Battery Tenders?** A: I beleve it will. I keep two batteries as backup for my toy hauler. After using them I hook them up and by the nexk day they are charged. I love them. Do I need extension cables?** A: Each cable is approx 6 1/2 ft long which will give you a width of 13 feet. This thing is great. I have 2 batteries in my boat and 2 in my diesel truck. I installed the plug-in leads on the boat batteries for easy, semi-permanent, solid connecting installation. The clip leads I'll keep here at the house for the truck since that's a short term need. It's easy, light, compact and does the job well. Just plug it in and go and I don't have to worry about weekly trips up to the boat to switch a big clunky battery charger from battery to battery. When I need to top off the truck batteries (it helps keep them healthy) I'll plug it in here and not have to worry about disconnecting the 1 battery I'm going to charge so the other won't leach off it. I can charge both evenly and not put undo draw on the stronger of the 2. I just wish I would have gotten this thing a long time ago!!! Update 10-7-2019 In 3 months this Tender will be 10 years old!! It hasn't missed a lick and for the last 6-8 years this has been kept on my boat constantly on when it's not in the water. It's connected via the plug in pigtails to 2 Optima's. Optima isn't what Optima used to be (only buy Odyssey anymore which are well worth the price) so this tender has kept them healthy. I pull it off and put it on my truck (2 batteries also) every now and then although with Odyssey Extreme's in it now, it hasn't been necessary. I'd consider mounting this Tender in the boat more permanently for more convenience. FYI, I just noticed the price is exactly what it was in 2010 when I bought mine.
