It does not come on when the truck is put in reverse. If the cargo light is not coming on, check the connector for voltage when the cargo light is activated inside the cab. If there is no voltage, you have a wiring problem. Again, this light does not come on when the transmission is put in reverse. **Q: Does this need a resistor?** A: It is plug-and-play. I have an 04 2500. there are a few post on here about the utility light staying on very dim. I only installed it today on 9/5/24. I am not seeing any lights staying on. I think maybe they updated it with a resister. Because in the pic ,I don't see the resister. If anything changes, I will give an update.. The only thing i would say they could change , is at the top, it seems to have more curve than it should, which is not much. that's why I bought the two pack weather strip for it . they are a tad thicker than the one that comes with it. I read the other post ,that talked about the top gap in the center. So, I went ahead and got both at the same time. I don't want to have to deal with any leaks.. I hope this will help you out with your decision . It is a really nice light, and I am very pleased with this purchase.
