Minimal scratching of the dud shell itself, but nothing significant like others have mentioned in other reviews. They did slightly scratch immediately, but no noticeable chipping or flaking. Haven't had any issues yet with them getting stuck, nor any ejection issues. Good heft, and are very similar to an actual shell. I honestly wish they'd pick some sort of different color, say, a safety orange, so that it's more easily distinguishable from an actual shell. It's definitely different enough, but, for ultimate safety, i think they should have gone with a more distinct color. There are no indentations on the top of the shell, as you'd have with a normal shell, so, even by feel you can tell it's not a live round.
