Originally it used 1/2 inch threads and needed an adapter to connect to the garden hose. After 10 years, the adapter and float valve gave out. I first tried the same type set up and had nothing but leaks. The adapter leaked, the valve leaked so the bowl overflowed. I then drilled out the hole to accept a 3/4 inch valve stem to connect to the hose. I purchased three different float valves. One had a long rod and float, two had the float internally.
