I lived with that for 3 1/2 years. But last week, I turned on the iron and walked away to wait for it to heat up, and I smelled smoke! I turned around, and the base of the iron was smoking! IT WAS ON FIRE! I unplugged it, covered it to put out the flames, and took it outside to cool. I did not purchase the insurance, but now wish I did. I am mostly ironing quilting cotton so use the highest setting. **Q: Can the base be sat on a table when in use?** A: I would think so, but I’ve only used mine on the floor.
