This thing is essentially a hotel room alarm clock that is factory pre-programmed with the time and date in the US Eastern time zone. The 2032 battery holds the programming so that when it is plugged into a power source, it comes alive with the date and time, which in my case was 2 minutes fast. I'm assuming it also has the dates of future DST changeovers programmed into it, but it does not pull down time signals from the atomic clock or any other source. The second paragraph of the Instructions, headed "How does the autoset technology works [sic]? says as much for anyone who cares to take the time to read it. **Q: Is this product any good?** A: Yes, very good! I got it for my daughter. It automatically keeps up with the time, just like our cell phones. The alarm works great. I recommend it. **Q: how long is the power cord?** A: Power cord is 5 feet long. **Q: Can it turn off for 10 minutes and go back on. And still have the battery, will it charge?** A: All I can say is that we had a short few minute power out and with other old digital clocks, I had to reset the clock. This clock wasn’t affected and I believe it is because the extra battery is the instant backup.
