Review: Great Antenna - designed for GMRS, can work for HAM bands but SWR was high (5+:1) - So I got this antenna out of the box and was immediately impressed with its build quality. It looks good, and it handled highway speeds with no issue. In town signal reception was good, and I had no issues hitting the repeater with a strong signal putting out 25 watts. However, when I borrowed my buddies RigExpert to check the SWR on the VHF band, my SWR was 5:1 or higher across. The RigExpert only went to 230mhz, I couldn't check the UHF band to see what it was doing up there, but it was resonant at 81.7mhz and below 2:1 SWR above 219. I know that there are factors inside my control that I could change to see if I could get a better match, but decided to check the Midland website to see the antennas specs. Here was the description I read this morning: "Expand GMRS two-way radio range by quadrupling signal output in wide-open spaces with limited obstructions and a flexible design fit for the elements" So the antenna is tuned and intended for use on GMRS frequencies between 462-467mhz as stated by the manufacturer. So if you are operating GMRS mobile, then by all means, I can recommend the antenna for build and quality.
