Best TV I've Ever Owned or Used!
Best TV I've ever owned or ever used at other people's homes! Ignore the comments about it 'having only 8 dimming zones' which you may have read from other buyers (of which most people are unaware anyway). I've watched several movies on mine and have noticed no inconsistent dimming in dark scenes. Color, brightness and black levels are excellent. The Clear Scan 240 feature makes every input look excellent. DVDs look almost as good as Blu-rays! I'm using nearly every type of video connection and all work great, especially the VGA computer monitor input--it accepts 1080p and looks every bit as great as HDMI. The four HDMIs are absolutely essential to anyone who has a multi-component home theater system. This even has separate Component AND Composite inputs (not shared) so you can hook up your beloved older pieces of equipment as well. The tuner is super-sensitive and picked up more channels than any of my other TVs or DVD recorders. The audio output through internal speakers is excellent with clear voice duplication and the best realistic bass I have ever heard in a TV. Also, all DTS and Dolby signals pass through the optical output to your stereo receiver without delay or corruption. Also ignore the complaints about the cloud service as it has a lot of useful features (not least of which keeping the TV updated and connected to your home network). No one should be relying on a smart TV for Netflix or other premium streaming services anyway. Any Roku or computer (both of which I have connected) is better than ANY smart TV. I upgraded from a Toshiba 50 inch (50L1350U) which was also excellent for it's price range (around $500). This is the first 55 inch TV Toshiba has offered recently and was the perfect size for my entertainment system space and room size. The more common 58 inch size would not have fit where I needed it to, so this is an excellent option if you need a 55 inch uber-quality TV at a reasonable price. This TV can currently be had on Amazon for around $800! Believe me, that is a steal for this high quality of a TV. I refuse to mar my walls with mounts so I have this on its stand. The rubber on the bottom of the stand sticks like glue to almost any surface but there are still two clips built into it to screw directly onto a solid wood surface (which I did to be on the safe side). The universal programmable remote is awesome as well. Do yourself a favor and don't discount this Toshiba if you need an excellent 55 inch TV for under $1000!

Cloud service on this tv sucks
Junk tv. Works fine as a monitor but everything else sucks. Im always having to reset the tv to access the cloud menu because there's no login portal to access it, and the tv doesn't seem to remember user names or passwords very well. The tv doesn't have access to all of the current apps so Im having to hook up my laptop to it to watch hulu. (The tv is not up to date programming wise and will not play hulu content direct from the internet portal.) Besides having a nice picture, Im really disappointed in this tv. Don't waste your money.

Not meant for dark rooms
I purchased this set hoping for great things from Toshiba. I'll say that during the day or when I had lights on in the room the picture looked great. The set can get VERY bright. The problem is that I like to watch a lot of movies with the lights off.Given that this is a FALD set I thought it'd have a good amount of dimming zones. It wasn't until after I received it that I found it only has 8 dimming zones. This means that in a dark room I could see the different zones "activate" in dark shows like Penny Dreadful. My wife thought of it as flickering. Maybe if the set was professionally calibrated this would be minimized but for me spending $250 on this that may not be the fix wasn't ideal.I also started to notice when watching some shows that a simple screen pan from left to right would be jittery. It wasn't smooth like it should be. This lead me to believe that maybe the processing in the TV isn't the best... or maybe I just received a not so good set.I no longer have the TV and I am happy that I don't. I wish Toshiba would have delivered a set with 64 dimming zones or more... it most likely would have been a winner. 8 zones just doesn't cut it.

Amazon customer care was excellent to talk to and were more than happy to ...
The tv that I received has 2 spots on the screen near the bottom where the stand hooks to it. Amazon customer care was excellent to talk to and were more than happy to give me a discount so that I would keep the tv. It was advertised as 120hz, but the one I got is only 60hz which makes the moving images appear to have a wavy shadow around them. The picture is good for the price, but took a lot of time to get it acceptable. The contrast ratio and dark scenes are not as vivid as I like, but the colors and adjust ability made it possible for me to get the picture watchable. Overall, for the price, it is a good tv, but I will find one that is truly 120hz or more and replace this one very soon.
