The Clover 1047/H Amour crochet hook is engineered to be the best hook ever. The incredibly smooth hook allows yarn to slide effortlessly and the new elastomer handle makes crocheting comfortable and stress free. These crochet hooks have color coded handles for easy size identification. This one is size H (5.0mm) and the handle color is deep blue.

Review: My favorite hooks! - I learned to crochet using the regular aluminum hooks with no handles. And I have ahistory of carpal tunnel and whatnot, so that just wouldn't do. My wrists would hurt and my hands would cramp after just a short while of holding onto the thin metal hooks. I was having to grip so tightly to them as well. But these hooks you notice the difference immediately. They are exceptional quality. The matte aluminum of the hook glides thru the yarn, with no squeaks, no sticking, no catching. Perfect, like butter. They are sturdy and will not bend or break and the hooks don't twist around in the handle the way some cheaper similar looking hooks do. They help me crochet longer without any pain, crochet faster and with proper tension. Honestly you cannot get a better functioning hook, even the ones that look similar to the clover brand are not what they seem. They tend to slip and slide out of the handles and the hooks are not the same smooth, matte texture so you get squeaks and sticking. Nothing comes close to a good quality hook. Worth every penny since it's your health, and you are using the hook for hours and hours on end. Definitely worth the small investment of getting a good hook for comfort and Leveling up your skill.

The Boye hooks (or hooks in that style) just didn't work as well for me as the Bates. My arm started hurting since I had to work so hard to keep the pointy part from snagging a little on whatever type of yarn. It's my own style of crocheting, I'm sure: I hold the hook in a "knife" grip rather than a "pencil" grip, so I have to move my whole arm around to make some hooks work, and even then, pulling through 3 or more loops of cotton yarn is usually a problem. Not with this hook! Cotton, acrylic, wool blend (didn't have any 100% wool to try), doesn't matter -- this hook glides smoothly through anything, even when I'm pulling through 3 or more loops. Even when I'm crocheting very tightly! And since the head sticks out just a tidge more than the Bates, I have no problems grabbing the yarn (which I occasionally did with those hooks). And the ergonomic grips are soft and really make the hook easy to use for long periods of time. Which is something my oldish hands really appreciate. Really, there's nothing I don't like about these hooks except the fact that they're really expensive for someone on a limited budget like me. I'll be saving up to buy the set, though. And since making amigurumi is my newest goal, and the tight stitching with that is tough on my hands, I'm getting another single hook in the size I use for that.

**Q: Is it an inline hook? How does shaft length compare to bates and boye.?**
A: I'm not familiar with the term "inline"; however, I prefer Boye (tapered shaft toward narrow area by the tip) to Susan Bates (cylindrical shaft with abrupt cutout for the yarn at the tip), and I adore my Amour hooks and will never go back to a non-ergonomic hook. Hope that helps.

**Q: What is the actual hook made of?**
A: It’s very lightweight metal. (Doesn’t bend at all).  Love my Clover Amour hooks.

**Q: Is the handle soft?**
A: While I don't know your specific definition of "soft", I will give you my impressions of this hook. The handle is not memory foam, but it is not cold steel either. Clover does a great job in hook construction. The handle is smooth and comfortable; it does not get clammy in your hand; however, there is no "give" to it either. I am a big fan of these hooks and have multiples of them in my collection.
