Sturdy hardback covers, open fully without signs of stress on the spine, elastic band and two place holders, good size to fit into my field trousers side pocket. I will use these to record data, observations and draw sketch plans in the arctic on wildlife fieldwork and they seem not all that inferior to Moleskine at a much better price. I've held back a star on Durability as they haven't faced that tough field test yet but I think they'll do just fine. There may be even cheaper comparables out there but unless your life is too long and you need to kill time, very happy with this purchase. I have been buying these books for 5 years and they are great quality, look great & you will not be disappointed. **Q: Are these completely plain on the outside or is there a company name/ embossment of any type?** A: No they are completely plain both inside and out . **Q: When you open each page flat, it won’t rip or tear will they?** A: The notebooks are really good, made with fairly heavy-duty paper so unlikely to tear or rip. **Q: These look a lot like the Moleskine notebooks.
