Nest thermostat for example.** A: UPDATE - For all our new models - RainMachine HD-12, HD-16 and Mini-8 - there is no need for port forwarding. You can access them remotely without any other settings. However, we maintained compatibility with first generation and you can use both ways, for reasons detailed below.We designed RainMachine to be totally independent from our servers. Port forward is very easy to set up and makes RainMachine your device, not ours. **Q: My system has 15 zones. Will a future product have: 1) 15 zones. 2) Ethernet connectivity. 3 )Laptop setup/control ?** A: The Rainmachine has 12 zones. Zone 1 is reserved for a pump/well setup if your so equipped. I can't tell you if Rainmachine will expand to 15 zones in the future. Ethernet connectivity is only available by wireless only. No CAT5e Ethernet port exists on the unit. You can program the unit via a laptop/desktop via wireless networking. I run mine via laptop, desktop and Remote Desktop via Google Chrome web browser. I also use an iPad. As for the iPhone, I use an older iPhone 4, but cannot see a full view of some screens and I am guessing its because it is an older phone, and the app was not developed for older versions of the iPhone.
